General Summary: Advanced professional-level EHS specialist or engineer responsible for the development, implementation, and management systems compliance of EHS programs within one or more plants, focused in safety.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create and coordinate implementation of safety programs for business unit based on regulatory requirements
- Investigate incidents, determine root cause and assist in the formulation of corrective actions.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management.
- Develop Safety procedures
- Data collection and analysis
- Review and critique designs or manufacturing engineer’s work to ensure safety compliance
- Assist in preparation of design criteria (i.e. Ergonomics, Machine Safeguarding, Fire Protection)
- Interpret, communicate and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Develop EHS training materials and deliver both classroom and OJT safety training
- Manage EHS programs and projects
- Develop and approve plans for area of expertise
- Prepare Management of Change (MOC) documentation
- Utilizes engineering knowledge and technology to identify, solve, or minimize EHS problems, and leads the development of corrective actions.
- Conducts detailed investigations of existing and potential safety and health hazards and makes recommendations for remedial and corrective measures.
- Performs engineering studies of accidents to determine courses and methods of preventive action.
- Serves as the internal consultant and primary interface between departments to evaluate operations, provide technical leadership, and develop training materials, in addition to serving as a corporate auditor and the local liaison to the Regional EHS Manager.
Abilities:
Ability to coordinate complex programs. Ability to manage people without direct supervisory authority. Computer skills; Proven strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong leadership ability; In-depth knowledge of technical and specialized EHS processes, policies and procedures (incl. technical degree); Extensive experience with EPA and/or OSHA compliance; Experience with ISO or TS requirements and/or related quality systems.
Education:
Requires technical Bachelor’s degree (engineering or science) or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Requires 6 to 8 plus advanced years’ experience in safety compliance or engineering with extensive experience in area of specialization.
Prefer experience in manufacturing and/or chemical processing. CSP or CIH is preferred.
Experience working at a PSM covered facility and/or an extensive knowledge of fire protection systems is desired. PSM certification strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must have hand dexterity at moderate speed with accuracy for half of each day. Requires steady, active effort and continuous walking.
Must be able to lift 15 lbs. on a regular basis.
Must be able to work in all areas of the plant.
